Frequently Asked Questions
How is text converted to binary?
Each character is encoded as UTF-8 bytes, and every byte is written as an 8-bit binary number. English letters use one byte; many symbols and emoji use two to four bytes.
Can I convert the binary back to text?
Yes, use the Binary to Text tool with the exact same output and you will get your original text back, including emoji.
Why do some characters produce more than 8 bits?
Characters outside basic ASCII need multiple UTF-8 bytes. An emoji, for example, is four bytes, so it produces 32 bits grouped in four 8-bit chunks.
Is there a length limit?
Conversion is instant for normal documents. Extremely large pastes (millions of characters) may take a moment because the output is about nine times larger.
