About Hangman
Hangman is thought to date from Victorian England, where it was played with paper and pencil as a morbid little parlour game: guess the word before the drawing is complete. It survived because it compresses real linguistic skill — letter frequency, spelling patterns and vocabulary — into a two-minute duel against the gallows.
This version draws its secret words from a built-in list of 18 everyday words — animals, objects and ideas like "elephant", "pyramid" and "chocolate" — and, helpfully, prints a one-line hint under the gallows for every word. You have 6 wrong guesses. Each mistake adds a part to the figure (head, body, two arms, two legs), each correct letter is revealed everywhere it appears, and the on-screen keyboard colours your guesses green or red as you go. Physical keyboards work too: just start typing letters.
How to Play Hangman
A secret word is chosen and shown as a row of blank slots, with a hint about its meaning underneath the gallows.
Guess a letter by clicking it on the on-screen keyboard or by pressing the key on your physical keyboard.
If the letter is in the word, every occurrence is revealed and the key turns green. If not, the key turns red and a body part is added to the figure.
You may make at most 6 wrong guesses — the counter at the top shows how many remain, and turns urgent once you are down to your last two.
Reveal the whole word before the sixth wrong guess to win. Complete the figure and the game ends, revealing the word. Press New Game for another word.

Tips & Tricks
- 💡Open with vowels — E, A, I, O, U in roughly that order. Almost every word in the list contains at least one, and each vowel found cuts the candidate words dramatically.
- 💡Read the hint before guessing blindly: "Flightless Antarctic bird" is a near-giveaway that also tells you the word length, letting you skip straight to confirming letters.
- 💡After vowels, work through the high-frequency consonants T, N, S, R, L and H before touching rare letters like Q, X or Z, which appear in none of the common patterns.
- 💡With two or three letters revealed, try to name candidate words and guess letters that distinguish between them, instead of continuing down the frequency list.

How many wrong guesses do I get?+
Six. The figure is drawn in six stages — head, body, left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg — and the game is lost when the sixth wrong letter completes it.
Is there a hint?+
Yes, every word comes with a short hint printed under the gallows (for example, "Largest land animal"). Using it is part of the game, not cheating.
Can I use my real keyboard?+
Yes. Pressing any letter key from A to Z guesses that letter, exactly like clicking the on-screen keys. Already-guessed letters are ignored.
How many words are there, and do they repeat?+
The list holds 18 words and each new game picks one at random, so repeats happen — but the letter-by-letter play still varies. If a word repeats, treat it as a speed run.
