Frequently Asked Questions
What binary formats are accepted?
Groups of 8 bits separated by spaces, or one continuous string of 0s and 1s whose length is a multiple of 8. Other whitespace such as newlines is ignored.
What happens if the binary is invalid?
Characters other than 0, 1 and whitespace are reported as an error, and byte sequences that are not valid UTF-8 decode with replacement characters so you can spot the problem.
Can it decode emoji and accented letters?
Yes. Bytes are decoded as UTF-8, so multi-byte characters like é or 😀 come back exactly as they were encoded.
How do I encode text to binary?
Use the companion Text to Binary tool, then paste its output here any time to reverse the process.
