Frequently Asked Questions
How is an IP address a number?
An IPv4 address is a 32-bit number. The dotted form simply shows the four bytes in decimal: 192.168.1.1 is 192×2²⁴ + 168×2¹⁶ + 1×2⁸ + 1 = 3232235777.
Where is the integer form used?
Databases often store IPs as integers for compact range queries, and some systems accept integer or hex forms of addresses in URLs, which is a known filter-bypass concern.
Can I convert a number back?
Yes. Enter any 32-bit unsigned integer (0 to 4294967295) in the integer tab and the dotted IPv4 form is calculated instantly.
Does it support IPv6?
This converter is IPv4-only; IPv6 addresses are 128-bit and use a different notation.
