Frequently Asked Questions

How are the dominant colors chosen?

The image is downscaled (so at most ~10,000 pixels are sampled), each pixel is bucketed into a quantized color cube, and buckets are ranked by frequency. The top colors are then filtered so palette entries stay visually distinct instead of being eight near-identical pixels of sky.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Sampling happens on a canvas in your browser; the file never leaves your device. The percentages shown are each color's share of the sampled pixels, ignoring transparent areas.

Why 6–8 colors and not exactly the top 8 buckets?

Raw frequency alone returns near-duplicates (five shades of the same blue). A minimum-distance filter keeps the palette useful for design: background, mid-tones and accent colors rather than repeats.

What can I do with the palette?

Click any swatch to copy its hex for CSS or a design tool, or download the palette as a PNG strip to drop into a mood board or brand document.
